Meribel consists of the central area and a number of satellite villages linked with the lift system. It is built in traditional chalet-style and boasts both good nightlife and good skiing. It is a very "English" resort, having been founded by a British developer in 1938 and has grown enormously in popularity in recent years. It is a resort where very few of the chalets or apartments are on the pistes or near the lift system which is centre on "La Chaudanne" - but a free shuttle bus runs regularly to carry visitors around.
The slopes are good for all levels of skiers - from experts to beginners with a host of English speaking ski schools to initiate you to the art or improve your skills. The lift system is highly efficient linking in one direction to the Courchevel Valley and in the other towards Val Thorens via St Martin de Belleville and Les Menuires.
